Fodor's Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Guide, First Edition 2003

Nantucket Whaler Guest House Let's not mince words: the suites carved out of this 1850 Greek revival house are gorgeous. Neither Calliope Ligelis nor Randi Ott, the New Yorkers who rescued the place in 1999, had any design experience, but they approached the project as if preparing to welcome friends. Each suite has a private entrance and the wherewithal to whip up a meal. The spacious bedrooms are lavished with flowers, well-chosen antiques, and fine linens, including plush robes. Couples who have come to explore not so much the island as one another will scarcely have to come up for air. Address: 8 N. Water Street (Box 1337, Nantucket, MA 02554. tel. 508.228.6597 or 888.808.6597 fax.508.228.6291 www.nantucketwhaler.com. 10 suites. Kitchenettes [or deluxe wetbar], cable TV, in-room VCR's, boccie, croquet; no kids under 12, no smoking, AE, MC, V. Closed mid-Dec.-mid-Apr.

Fodor's Nantucket Pocket Guide
First Edition 2001

Nantucket Whaler Guest House The beautiful hand painted mural that covers the foyer and climbs with a floral border up the stairway is an indication of the attention to detail given this property. Don't let the name fool you - this isn't any run-of-the-mill inn. The level of luxury, special touches, and in-room amenities is unlike that of other guesthouses, which, even here on Nantucket, are typically not quite so thoughtful or fancy. Built in 1850, the guesthouse was purchased in 2000 by Calliope Ligelis and Randi Ott, two hardworking mothers who have spent a great deal of time and energy transforming the place into such a classy inn. Fine linens, down comforters, plush robes, and towels for your trip to the beach are some of the extras you can expect. Each suite has it's own entrance, deck, a kitchenette with mini-refrigerator [or] wet bar, and kitchen accessories, and both a microwave and toaster oven. Children over 12 are accepted. But this place is best for couples seeking a romantic getaway. 8 N. Water St. 02554, tel. 508.228.6597, fax 508.228.6291, 10 suites, kitchenette, AE, MC, V, Closed Dec. 15-Apr.15. www.nantucketwhaler.com
